Total Knee Arthroplasty

Xray of Fractures

Osteoarthritis of the knee is rapidly becoming one of the most common problems in orthopaedic surgery. While the number of total hip replacements performed each year in the US has not changed much over the past 10 years, the number of knee replacements has nearly tripled since the year 2000. With so many knee replacements performed every year, the technology is evolving rapidly and results are excellent for well selected patients. There is also a trend towards less invasive procedures that only replace the portion of the knee that has severe arthritis; this includes procedures such as unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and patellofemoral replacement surgery. The Bay Area Bone & Joint Center offers the following types of knee arthroplasty surgery:

  • Minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty (MIS Knee replacement)
  • Primary total knee arthroplasty
  • Selected revision total knee arthroplasty
  • Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty
  • Patellofemoral knee arthroplasty
